Love and Recite the Holy Quran: Amazing Stories of Devotion
The Holy Quran is the perfect Word of Almighty Allah. He is the Creator and Owner of everything! Reading, listening to, or even just looking at the Quran is an act of worship.
Our great pious saints and companions of the Prophet loved the Quran deeply. They found huge mercy and blessings in reciting it all the time.
Let's look at some amazing examples of this love!
1. Imam Bukhari's Deep Devotion
Imam Muhammad Bin Isma’eel Bukhari was a very busy person. But his love for the Quran was immense!
Reciting in Ramadan: During the nights of the sacred month of Ramadan, he would recite 10 parts of the Quran in his extra prayers (Nawafil) every night.
He would finish reading the entire Quran every three nights!
The Sting of the Fatal Animal
Once, Imam Bukhari was praying his extra prayers (Nawafil). A dangerous insect stung him 16 or 17 times! His body started to swell.
When he finished his prayer, his students asked: "Why didn't you stop when it stung you the first time?"
He answered: "I had started a Surah, and I wanted to finish it."
Imagine! His love for the Quran was so strong that pain could not make him stop reading the Surah he started!
2. The Tears of the Companions (Sahaba)
The companions of the Prophet (Sahaba) recited the Quran with a lot of emotion. They would cry when thinking about its meaning.
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq: The first Caliph, could not control his tears when reciting the Quran. He would weep bitterly out of love and fear of Allah.
Sayyiduna Umar Farooq: The second Caliph, once recited the verses: "Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. No one can avert it." (At-Toor 7-8). He was so overcome with fear of Allah that he felt like he was suffocating and stayed in that emotional state for almost 20 days!
How to Recite the Quran with Sorrow
The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Recite the Holy Quran because on the Judgement Day it will come as an intercessor for its reciters." He also said: "Quran was revealed with sorrow, therefore, when you recite it, reveal your sorrow."
How can we feel this emotion?
Think about the Warnings: When you read verses about Allah's punishment, think about the things you have done wrong.
Check Your Actions: Think about how well you follow Allah's commands. Did you miss a prayer? Did you do something forbidden?
Tremble and Weep: When you realize your shortcomings, your heart will naturally tremble, and you will feel humble. Try to weep, as this shows true devotion and love for Allah.
The Holy Quran is a guide, a mercy, a healing, and a clear light (Noor). Let's develop a deep love for it and read it as much as we can. This amazing book is protected by Allah Himself!
